The rivers and coastlines of this area offer fishermen and women some outstanding sport.
Salmon fishing has long been linked with the Forss House Hotel, which is only 200 yards from the River Forss and its excellent sport, which depends on water levels.
We're happy to arrange a packed lunch to take with you for your day fishing.
Please note that the Forss River is currently closed for fishing to allow stocks to increase.
Trout fishing
Caithness is world-renowned for the quality and diversity of its wild brown trout fishing. The best months to visit us are normally May to September with excellent mayfly hatches from mid-June to mid-August.
Most of the fishing is top of the water executed with a floating line and a rod of 9ft to 10ft. Fly size varies between 10 to 16 and there are well-stocked tackle shops in the towns of Wick and Thurso.
The Forss House Hotel is centrally located for famous waters such as Loch Watten, Loch St Johns, Heilan, Calder, Reay Lochs and Toftingall.
Salmon fishing
Salmon fishing is available throughout the season from February until the end of October. Rods can occasionally be booked by the day on Thurso and Halladale. This is subject to availability as the rivers are privately owned.
